Back-Pack Kids
Back-pack Kids Program Video
Back-Pack Kids is a Food Bank of Northern Nevada program that provides nutritious, easy-to-prepare weekend food for elementary school children in Washoe County School District’s Children in Transition (CIT) program. Children who have been identified as CIT’s are homeless. This means that they live in a motel, with friends or on the streets. HIGH SCHOOL PANTRY PROGRAM
There are students at every high school in the Washoe County School District whose families need food assistance, often more than once in a while. The Food Bank of Northern Nevada partners with 7 local high schools to stock small emergency food pantries at each school. School groups, such as ROTC, often conduct food drives to restock their school’s pantry, and students also help in other ways in the pantry program.
Students in need and their families are referred to the pantry for food assistance through the school’s counseling office. The school pays nothing for food provided by the Food Bank of Northern Nevada for its school pantry. Students are also given other food assistance information to help their families.
How Can You Help?
- Donate funds to help the Food Bank purchase foods for high school pantries.
- Call your high school, ask for the food pantry coordinator, and offer to volunteer during pantry hours.
- Donate personal care items, baby foods and diapers, and laundry supplies to the Food Bank for the high school food pantries.
- Offer to have your church or club conduct a food drive to support a nearby high school’s food pantry.
