Frequently Asked Questions
about the Food Bank of Northern Nevada Ground Breaking
and Donald W. Reynolds Regional Distribution Center

What is the Food Bank of Northern Nevada and who do you serve?
The Food Bank is a non-profit food distribution and support system, providing food for more than 90 different direct service, non-profit agencies. We serve the needy, the ill, the elderly and children.
How big is the area you serve?
We provide food for about 56,000 people in 13 Nevada counties and seven counties in eastern California. We cover an 80,000 square mile area.
Why do you need a new building?
The current Food Bank has grown beyond its capacity. The new Food Bank is more than double the size of our current facility. A larger Food Bank enables us to handle more food which means more meals—about 2 million to 4 million additional meals—every year.
How big is the new building?
The overall building will be about the size of a football field—more than double the size of our current location.
How will a new building improve operations?
The new building will allow an additional three to six million pounds of food (2 million to 4 million additional meals) to be processed and distributed to hungry people.

When most people think of a “food bank” they think of canned foods. This will always be the core of our program, but we believe that fresh food is important too. The new building will quadruple the space for refrigeration and freezer capacity. This means more fruits, veggies, dairy products and other healthy and fresh foods will be given to hungry people in our region.
When will the new building open?
The Food Bank of Northern Nevada Donald W. Reynolds Regional Food Distribution will open by May, 2008.
Where will the Food Bank of Northern Nevada Donald W. Reynolds Regional Food Distribution be located?
McCarran, Nevada at the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center—only eight miles east of Sparks—about 15 minutes east of our current location.
Why are you moving out of the Reno-Sparks area?
The Food Bank is committed to being good stewards of our resources. The McCarran location allows the Food Bank to build a big enough facility to grow and to support the needs of the community, as well as the region for years to come.
How much will the Food Bank of Northern Nevada Donald W. Reynolds Food Distribution Center Cost?
The total cost of the project is $14.6 million.

The Donald W. Reynolds Foundation provided an $8.2 million capital grant, and we’re in the middle of a capital campaign to raise the rest of the funds.
How can I give to the capital campaign?
Call the Food Bank at (775) 331-3663 and ask for Vivienne French.
