A Plateful of Heroes.

How You Can Help

The Food Bank of Northern Nevada is grateful for the support from a wide range of organizations and individuals in our region and across the country.  Caring individuals, corporate gifts and foundation grants provide significant funding for programs such as food distribution, child nutrition, nutrition education and general operating expenses.  These gifts are critical to our mission to keep the Food Bank of Northern Nevada working to end hunger, day in and day out, throughout the year.

Corporate Employee Giving Programs

The local Morgan Stanley Smith Barney investment and brokerage firm located on Kietzke Lane in Reno has joined the ranks of companies that offer a matching gift when employees make a contribution to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada.

For corporations that already have employee contribution programs, adding the Food Bank to the approved list of beneficiaries is simple to do. Generally, an employee can suggest the Food Bank to his/her human resources department. The human resources representative in turn initiates the paperwork with the national office and the Food Bank can provide corresponding documents for the process.

Locally-owned businesses can also consider matching employee gifts or contributions at a level that it elects as an incentive for employees to give at work. For these options usually the company CFO or CPAs on staff can set up the rules pertaining to their outreach program and then publicize the option to employees on staff.

The Food Bank of Northern Nevada uses the contributions to purchase food and offer programs that feed the hungry. For every dollar donated, the Food Bank can provide adequate food to equal four meals. Approximately 65 percent of the people served by the Food Bank are children and seniors. Demand for services has increased by more than 30 percent in the past 18 months.

Among the other companies that have set up a program that encourages employees to give back – either periodically or with every paycheck – are:  AT&T ; C.V.
