On April 9, 2009 a group of 20 local celebrities gathered at the Eldorado Hotel Casino to help raise money for the Food Bank of Northern Nevada on behalf of the Legends at Sparks Marina Reno-Tahoe Open and the Reno-Tahoe Open Foundation. Guests at the first-ever event had the opportunity to select a celebrity waiter or waitress from area VIPs including Senators William Raggio and Randolph Townsend, news anchor Shelby Sheehan, Sheriff Mike Haley, Reno and Sparks Mayors Cashell and Martini and Assemblywoman Debbie Smith who competed for tips that were in turn, donated to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. In all, $13,609 was contributed in tips to celebrity waiters during the event with Assemblywoman Smith toppling the competition.
